Congratulations to Oak Park and River Forest junior softball player Taylor Arends, the Midtown Athletic Club Athlete of the Week.

Arends,  who went on a hitting tear during the postseason since returning from a high ankle sprain, went 2-for-2 with a key double and two RBIs to power the Huskies past Trinity 3-2 en route to a sectional title. In the next round of the playoffs, The Huskies fell 4-0 to Glenbard North in the supersectional.

"It felt great to be back playing on the field," said Arends, who hit around .543 with a home run, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored in only 70 at-bats this spring. "I tried to support my teammates when I was injured but it's a lot harder watching games from the dugout."

During the fall of 2013, Arends joined close friend Tess Trinka to finish second in the state in No. 1 doubles at the girls tennis state finals.

The Midtown Athletic Club Athlete Feature, The Midtown Athletic Club Athlete of the Week and weekly sports calendar/scoreboard are sponsored by Midtown Athletic Club in Oak Park.
