Catherine Krickl (nee McGarr), 87, died at home of pancreatic cancer with her family beside her on May 20, 2012. A longtime Oak Park resident and Ascension parishioner, she was very supportive of Seguin Services in Cicero, where her son, Joe, has received assistance for the past 47 years.
Mrs. Krickl and her husband, Joe, were very involved in advocacy and fundraising for the organization, which aids children and adults with disabilities. She served on the Seguin board from 1979 to 1985 and was also a member of the program committee.
"Catherine was always generous in her support of Seguin Services," said Jim Haptonstahl, executive vice president of Seguin. "She was a strong advocate not only for her own son, Joe, but for everyone with disabilities whom we serve. She was warm and welcoming of Seguin staff, working effectively with us to ensure high-quality, person-centered services. And for me she was also, along with her husband Joe, a great neighbor and friend on Oak Park's Southeast Side, true to Oak Park's reputation of outstanding community involvement."
Catherine Krickl is survived by Joe, her husband of 62 years; her children, Cathy (Drew) Rutz, Joe, Dave (Celeste), Paul (Donna), Ray (Nancy), Tom, John (Nancy), and Mary (Tim) Flanagan; her grandchildren, Dan (Janell), Jill, Jay, Jenna, Mike, Jeff, Ethan, Monica, Dewey, Kara, and Maura; her great grandson, Liam; her brother-in-law, John (Maureen) Krickl; her many nieces and nephews; and her in-laws, Margaret McGarr, Dolores Krickl, and John (Maureen) Krickl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Catherine McGarr; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Magill; her siblings, Frank and Maureen McGarr; and her brother-in-law, Bill Krickl.
Visitation was held May 24 at Peterson-Bassi Chapels/Gamboney & Son Directors with a funeral Mass celebrated on May 25 at Ascension Church in Oak Park. Final committal services were private. Memorials to Seguin Services Inc., 3100 S. Central, Cicero, IL 60804 or Seguin RCA, 6223 Ogden, Berwyn, IL 60402, or to Garden Center Services, 8333 Austin Ave., Burbank, IL 60459 are appreciated.
