The front doors of Ascension Church in Oak park and a nearby "Respect for Life" sign were vandalized with red paint some time between 10:30 p.m. Monday night and 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, when Rev. Larry McNally, Ascension's pastor, was alerted.

McNally said he checked all the buildings at 10:30 p.m. before going to bed Monday night, so he knows it happened after that. "I see it as a random act of vandalism," he said. Word spread quickly, and a number of parishioners responded immediately to work on removing the paint. "It's hard to get off," McNally noted. Oak Park police are investigating.
