Margaret "Peg" Humes Tucker McElroy, 95, of River Forest, died on June 6, 2013. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 7, 1917, she moved to Oak Park in 1927 and has been an area resident since. She attended St. Edmund School, graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School, and the University of Illinois Champaign, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She earned a master's degree in Library Science from Rosary College (now Dominican University) and was on the faculty of OPRF High School.

Of her many affiliations, she was most proud of her long membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Infant Welfare Society. Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed singing and tap dancing.

Peg McElroy is survived by her children, Barbara (Joseph) Philipps, Margaret Leigh Tucker and Ernest (Elizabeth Kaufmann) Tucker; her grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Bob) Dolan, Busy Philipps (Marc Silverstein), Travis and Cameron Tucker; her great-grandchildren, Birdie Silverstein and Josie Dolan; her siblings, Barbara (the late John) Cook and Thomas I. (Helga) Humes; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Edward Tucker and Joseph McElroy, and her parents, Thomas Irvin and Margaret Humes.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 13 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., in Oak Park. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at St. Edmund Church, followed by interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Rainbow Hospice are appreciated.
