With one internal promotion and one outside hire, Oak Park police Chief Rick Tanksley filled out his command structure Monday night at a ceremony at village hall.

Det. Sergeant Michael Richardson is a 26-year veteran of the Oak Park department. He joined the Oak Park police in 1988, serving as a patrol officer, field training officer, internal affairs supervisor and detective sergeant. He will now serve at the rank of commander.

Joseph Waitzman joined the department recently in the commander position. He comes from south suburban

Country Club Hills. During his 26-year career Waitzman also worked in Rolling Meadows and the Illinois Secretary of State's office.

Both were sworn in June 9 by Village Clerk Teresa Powell.

Tanksley praised the two commanders' "sense of duty" and said they would "provide leadership and professionalism to the officers under their command."
