Joseph J. Archibald Jr., 84, died on April 27, 2012 at West Suburban Medical Center. Born in Oak Park on Oct. 1, 1927 to the late Joseph J. and Christine F. (nee Martin) Archibald, he was a graduate of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Grammar School, Fenwick High School, the University of Notre Dame, and served with the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps.

On Jan. 6, 1951, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Claire Daley. He was a salesman with Jefferson Electric Co. and later founded Archibald & Hamel Inc. He retired from Archibald & Meek in 2010, after a 60-year career in the electrical industry.

Personal and professional honors and affiliations included: member of the Electric Association Board of Directors; member of the Lake Michigan Club Advisory Council; member of Little Wheels Club of Chicago; 1980 recipient of the President's Award, Electric Golf Club, 1986 Man of the Year; Roadway Lighting Forum; 1994 inductee into the Electric Association Hall of Fame; 2004 Gold Medal Award Winner, Chicagoland Electric Association; 1968-69 President, Notre Dame Alumni Club of Chicago; 1980 Man of the Year, Notre Dame Alumni Club of Chicago; and Life Trustee, Fenwick High School, 1975.

He was proud to be the "Oldest Finisher" at age 47 in the Drake University Relays, a 26-mile marathon where he averaged 8 min., 50 seconds per mile.

His hobbies included, sports spectating, listening to traditional jazz and Big Band music, and amateur photography.

Joe Archibald is survived by his wife, Claire Daley; his children, Joseph J. III (Michelle), Mary Claire, and Anne Therese (Douglas) Deutsch; his grandchildren, Ryan Joseph Archibald, Jessica, Josh, Joel, Therese, Douglas Jr. and Grace Anne Deutsch; and his siblings, William M. (Marilyn) and the late Ann (Edward) Losos.

A funeral Mass was held on May 8 at St. Giles Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials to Misericordia or St. Giles Church are appreciated.
