Sandra Hagen Meade, 63, a former Oak Park resident, died on March 12, 2013, at her home in Santa Rosa, Calif. She battled cancer for many years but never lost her spirit to live and love life, her family, and her work. Born on June 14, 1949 in St. Louis to Andrew and Gladys Hagen, she grew up in Grundy Center, Iowa, and attended Moody Bible Institute, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Illinois Circle, and Harrington Institute of Interior Design. She married Glenn Meade in 1975.

Mrs. Meade enjoyed many careers throughout her life, including musician, poet, actress, interior designer, furniture designer, and color expert. Especially fond of outdoor activities with friends and family, she was always hiking, gardening, and going to outdoor concerts and dining with friends. She shared her home for frequent gatherings to enjoy good music, food, and conversation.

Establishing her own business, Meade Design, she did residential interior design, eventually focusing on color, at which she excelled. In her spare time, she wrote
poetry, walked, and danced competition-level ballroom dancing. She traveled widely and especially enjoyed the beautiful parks of the American West. She gave freely of her time to many teaching and
charitable pursuits.

Sandra Meade is survived by her husband, Glenn, and her sons, Oliver and Joseph. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at First United Church of Oak Park, 848 Lake St. It is open to all who wish to celebrate her life and time with us.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Sandy may be made to North County Hospice, 205 East St., Healdsburg, CA 95448.
