Arthur Matthew Grimes, 81, of Chesterton, Ind., formerly of Oak Park, died on April 30, 2014 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Born on Oct. 16, 1932 in Chicago to Arthur J. and Martha (Fleischman) Grimes, he served for 12 years with the U.S. Naval Reserves in Glenview. He had been a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chicago.
Mr. Grimes began his career as maintenance supervisor with G.J. Aigner Printing, then became a regional lubrication engineer with Mobil Oil before beginning his own business, Universal Four, from 1975 to 2000. In 1980 he founded Lubrico, a supplier of proprietary industrial lubricants, which continues to be family owned.
Arthur Grimes is survived by his wife, Tollie Jacklin; his children, Arthur Paul (Polly) Grimes, Mary Karen (Kenneth) Gehrling, Phillip Michael (Cynthia) Grimes, Mary Katherine (Patrick) Culkeen, and Stuart William (Colleen) Grimes; his sister, June Franks; and his grandchildren, Meghan, Benjamin (Katie), William, Melissa (Zack), Michael, Brian, Burke, Brigit, Anya, Erin, Molly, Hannah and Liam. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Elizabeth Burgess and Ralph Grimes.
Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, a celebration of his life was held on May 4 at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383. Arrangements were handled by Moeller Funeral Home.
