Trinity pitcher Allison Hernandez fanned 13 batters and allowed only one hit in a 12-0 taming of Notre Dame on Saturday to help win the school's first ever regional softball title.

"We all pulled through today. We had a good team effort, and we all hit today," said Hernandez, who also had a single and an RBI double in the win.

In the semifinal earlier in the week, Karen Wagner and Rena Maritote combined for 12 strikeouts in a 13-2 romp of Foreman.

Gina Consiglio got the offense started in the win over Notre Dame when she led off with a walk and then promptly stole second and third. She scored the Blazers' first run on a wild pitch. Right fielder Allison Mazurek tripled. Kelly O'Brien's well hit ball scored Mazurek, but O'Brien was called out at third on a close play. The Blazers built on their lead in the second inning, adding four more runs. Both Marisa Bertolli and Marisa Felder had RBI doubles for the Blazers.

Hernandez struck out the first nine hitters she faced. In the bottom of the third, a single by Laura Gerambia scored two more runs to put the Blazers up 8-0.

Catcher Christina Carbonaro was solid with two hits and complimented Hernandez's pitching.

"I love catching for Allie. She's consistent, and she's always in the strike zone," said Carbonaro.

Besides Hernandez's two hits, pinch hits by Rena Maritote and Karen Wagner resulted in three RBI's to put the game out of reach in the fourth. Norte Dame got a single in the top of the fifth to foil the no-hitter, but could not get beyond first base.

"They came out and played the way they are supposed to, from the first inning to the last inning. It's the first regional win in Trinity history. This is a big win for us," said Trinity head coach Bob Osborne after the game.

Karen Wagner had nine strikeouts and a no-hitter after four innings in the win over Foreman. She had to leave the game in the bottom of the fourth after being hit by a pitch. In relief, Maritote gave up two runs but then struck out the last three batters.

The Blazers' bats came alive in the fourth inning as they scored 10 runs to be up 13-0. Carbonaro went 3-for- with two RBIs.

Trinity takes on area-rival Fenwick in the St. Ignatius Sectional semifinal on Thursday (4:15 p.m.) at UIC.
