The Oak Park Masters Swim Team, represented by 15 athletes?#34;most of whom are Oak Park and River Forest residents?#34;at the April 14th-17th Illinois Masters State championship Meet at UIC, placed ninth out of 42 teams in their best showing to date. The team had not placed higher than 15th in its history, and this year's success can be attributed to greater team depth.
Competing in the women's 55-59 age group, newcomer Lee Stanard was the team high-point winner, turning in first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 breaststroke (:41.96 and 1:34.13 respectively) and a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (3:32.34). She also contributed to the second and third place finishes for the age 55-plus relay team of Judy DeMichele, Bill Monahan, and Ben Zee.
The top-performing male was Greg Sorg, who accumulated 30.5 individual points over the course of the meet, earning a second-place tie in the men's 30-34 age group of the 50 butterfly with a time of :25.98. Other swimmers who helped drive the team's score up were Ben Zee, who earned 30 individual points for the team, and Carolyn Hahn, who contributed 29 points.
Impressive performances were turned in by several of the swimmers, including Kris Reichmann-Crowley's first place finish in the women's 35-39 age group in the 100 butterfly (1:18.71) and Eliza DeMichele's second place finish in the women's 30-34 age group in the 100 butterfly (1:15.27).
