Did you hear that? That was a deep breath the Park District of Oak Park took when the referendum passed. The burden of no money with many deteriorating assets will be lifted.
I have worried in years past about making even the most basic repairs to our buildings and fields. Where would the money come from? What program would suffer next in this war of attrition we've been waging at the park district?
Happily, thanks to the hard work of so many, we can return to a normal municipal respiratory pattern.
I also heard something else. I heard a resounding mandate for the park district's open style of government. What will you get for your tax increase? Due diligence, accessibility, and a patient work ethic. In short, you'll get what you deserve. You've earned good government by choosing to live here.
I like the sound of that.
