Oak Park and River Forest High School's science students won first place at the 6th annual Northwestern University High School Project Showcase on May 20.

The students are part of OPRF's Investigative Research in Biomedical Innovation Class. The team, as well as individual members, won all six competitions they entered at the showcase.

In addition, student Noelani Ho placed first in the Chicago Junior Science and Humanities Symposium for her engineering design of a new ballet shoe to reduce foot injuries.

It has been a very good year for the young OPRF scientists. Here is a summary of their team and individual awards:

  • Individual first place wins went to McCabe Barrett, Sean Hickey and Connor Kotte.
  • First place win for Rebecca Streit and second place win for Matthew Henning in the U.S. National BioGENEius Challenge.
  • First place team win in the Illinois State University Science Symposium.
