Walter Monroe Glick, 90, died at his Oak Park home from complications due to pancreatic cancer on May 11, 2017. Born on Aug. 4, 1926 to the late Lester Leander Glick and Mary Cecelia Glick (nee Walters) in Napoleon, Ohio, he attended Napoleon High School and, upon graduation, served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in World War II. Following his demobilization, he attended Ohio University and earned a B.A. degree.

In the early 1950s, Walter settled in Oak Park and studied art and painting at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and, later, the U.S. Department of Defense, retiring with 41 years of commended service. He was an accomplished portrait painter and artist, and also an athlete, enjoying a variety of sports, especially bowling, as well as golf and tennis, which he played avidly even into his later years.

Walter Glick is survived by his large and varied group of friends, all of whom he held dear, especially Edgar Matticks and family, Dan Hudson, and Tony Loutos. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lester Jr. and Virginia.

At Walter’s request, no service was held. Memorial contributions in his honor are welcomed to the Historical Society of Oak Park-River Forest, www.oprfhistory.org.
