Phyllis Ann Erickson, a lifelong resident of Oak Park, died on May 9, 2013 at the Bethesda Home in Chicago. Born on July 3, 1926 at Westside Hospital in Chicago to Dr. Iver A. and Helen M. Oveson, she attended Horace Mann School, Oak Park and River Forest High School, completed two years at Dennison, and received a teaching degree from the National College of Education in Evanston.

A member of United Lutheran Church in Oak Park as she was growing up, she became a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest. She loved to play the piano, knit, and play bridge. A devoted pre-school teacher, she spent most of her teaching career at St. Giles Parochial School.

Phyllis Erickson is survived by her children, John (Marcy) Erickson, Jean (Reiner) Kloth and Paul (Mary Beth) Erickson; her grandchildren, Mia Kloth, Zoe Erickson and Rebecca Erickson; her step-grandchildren, Eric and Scott Denton, Kim (Nick) Huinker and Donald (Rachel) Winston; and her step-great-granddaughter, Evelyn Huinker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Erickson; and her sister, Jean Overson.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St. The memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on May 25 at Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division St., in River Forest.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Grace Lutheran Church are appreciated.

Phyllis was such a really lovely woman. Smart, funny, and a loving personality. She can now use those beautiful traits in heaven. Blessings to her family and friends.
