David Christy Peters Sr., 91, of Marcus, Iowa, died a year ago on May 19, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in LaMars, Iowa on May 6, 1922 to Jay and Cora (Christy) Peters of Marcus, Iowa, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific. He married the love of his life Betty Jane Bramhall, an Oak Park resident. They lived in Oak Lawn and then Oak Park raising their five children.

Mr. Peters spent his career as a flight engineer for American Airlines, retiring after 39 years in 1986. He and his wife continued to travel via motor home and enjoyed visiting both family and state parks. They returned to the small town of Marcus where he lovingly cared for Betty during her struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

After her death, he stayed in his hometown, enjoying lunch with friends, golfing, coffee gatherings, and sitting with his cats. He was a kind and giving soul and is missed by many.

David Peters is survived by his children, David (Patty) Peters Jr., Michael (Carol) Peters, Niki (Larry) Merrick, Bunny (Steve) Schubert, and Dru Johnson; his 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and his numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his only brother, Jerry; and his grandson, Peter John Merrick.
