Don Harmon has sponsored an amendment to Senate Bill 886 that will amend the Elevator Safety and Regulation Act to add multiple family condominiums and apartment buildings to the definition of a “private residence”-exempting apartment and condo elevators from the more onerous rules imposed by the act. Also, to ensure adequate time for compliance with any other parts of the law, the amendment also extends the compliance requirement date from 2009 to 2011.

Without the amendment, our building and many others like ours or even smaller would be required to make expensive changes to our elevator systems in order to comply with the act by the end of next year. This is an important issue for all of the owners and residents of small and medium condominiums and apartment buildings in
Oak Park.

Senator Harmon needs our support to help get the amendment to Senate Bill 886 passed. Please send letters and e-mails of support to him at:

Please help Senator Don Harmon help us. Please pass this information along to friends and neighbors who live in condos or apartment buildings so they can assist in this effort.  We don’t want to stand silently by when we can make a difference by speaking up.
