As co-chairs of the Board of Directors of the Oak Park Area Lesbian and Gay Association (OPALGA) we would like to clarify any misconception that may have arisen as a result of the article referencing the "Day of Silence" which appeared in the May 11 issue of the JOURNAL ("OPRF 'heterosexual quiz' rankles dad, OPALGA, too").

Our organization is in complete and unambiguous support of the Day of Silence, which is observed throughout our country. Our hope and belief is that ending homophobia will someday make as much progress throughout our country as it has in Oak Park.

We regret if there has been any misunderstanding of our position in this affair and we will continue to reach out to our wider community so that we may communicate and affirm each other in our lives as fellow citizens?#34;including the citizens who attend and teach at Oak Park and River Forest High School.
