For the second year in a row, the Oak Park Huskies girls' 14U softball team took first place in the annual Park Forest Eagles Mother's Day tournament.
After falling behind on Saturday morning, the Huskies came back to beat the Homewood Heat 4-1. Megan White pitched a flawless game, giving up only two hits and striking out 10. The Huskies went on to beat the Orland A's 4-1 and the Orland Sparks 6-3 recording K.C. Montgomery's first win of the season on a five-hit, three-strike out effort.
The offense came alive as Alyssa Kilgallon, Asia Babbington, Janie Brennan, Maggie Paoli, Kaele Leonard and Montgomery all racked up RBIs.
Sunday morning's game against the Indiana Munster Muddawgs ended with a 6-0 win for the Huskies. White pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out nine. The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the sixth inning when, with two on base, Babbington lined a hit into center to start a six-run rally. She had offensive help from Pauline Lazzeretti, Vlasta Mangia, Kaele Leonard, Kilgallon, Paoli and Brennan, who went 10-for-18 during tournament play.
The Huskies went on to win the championship game, beating the Muddawgs again 2-1.
The Huskies defense was rock solid all weekend. Brennan was behind the plate for all seven tournament games. The team had offensive and defensive help from Kaitlin Moran and Rachel Gillett as well.
