An offender described as a male between 23 and 27 years old, with a medium build and black hair, exited Oak Park Records, on the 100 block of S. Oak Park Ave., at just after noon on May 6, with records concealed under his jacket that he hadn't paid for. He was followed by the business owner, who confronted the suspect in the alley, at which point the suspect dropped the albums and pulled out a black handled automatic knife with a three- to four-inch blade, and stepped towards the victim. The victim then exited the alley, and the offender was last seen heading eastbound through a parking lot on the 200 block of S. Oak Park.
An offender described as a male between 40 and 50 years old, between 5-feet-8 and 6-feet tall was seen removing an unattended Columbia backpack from a location on the 100 block of Madison St. on April 29. The backpack contained a wallet with miscellaneous identification cards, and a 15-inch white Apple Macbook laptop. Estimated loss is $1,610.
An unknown offender removed a central air conditioning unit from a residence located on the 1000 block of S. Humphrey between April 10 and May 2. Estimated loss is $800.
An offender described as a 25-year-old male, 5-feet-10 and 180 pounds entered a business located on the 6300 block of North Ave., removed a gold pendant from the display counter, and left the store without paying. The suspect then entered a tan Saturn vehicle and fled southbound on Ridgeland. Estimated loss is $800.
An unknown offender entered a business located on the 1000 block of Lake between May 2 and 3, through the front door, which has a faulty lock. The offender removed a Packard Elite Book laptop. Estimated loss is $2,700.
Motor vehicle theft
An unknown offender removed a 1991 Buick Century from a location on the 1200 block of N. Austin on May 3. Estimated loss is $8,000.
Driving under the influence
Rory Ault, 54, of the 100 block of Turner Place in Sycamore, was arrested on May 4 at a location on the 300 block of Madison and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 percent, disobeying a traffic control signal, and transporting open alcohol.
Theft from motor vehicle
An unknown offender removed a spare tire and mounting brackets from the undercarriage of a 2004 Ford Explorer parked on the 700 block of N. Kenilworth on May 5. Estimated loss is $500.
Otis A. Hill, 58, of the 4900 block of W. Ohio in Chicago, was arrested at a location on the 900 block of N. Taylor on May 6 and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal damage to property, battery and aggravated false impersonation of a peace officer. The charges resulted from three separate cases.
An unknown offender used a pry type tool to force open the front door of an apartment on the 1000 block of N. Austin on May 6. The offender ransacked the residence and removed a computer, a flat screen television, video game system, and miscellaneous text books. Estimated loss is $3,200.
An offender described as a female between 40 and 50 years old, 5-feet-9, and 200 pounds was seen inside a store on the 6400 block of Roosevelt Rd. on May 7, concealing 47 bottles of body wash in her purse and exiting the store without paying. The offender entered a blue four-door Volkswagen which was last seen heading north on Ridgeland. Estimated loss is $227.
Retail theft arrest
Dwayne Smith, 51, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after attempting to steal eight steaks from the Jewel Osco on the 7500 block of Lake on May 7. The steaks totaled just under $99 in value.
Burglary to auto
A victim observed two offenders sitting in the front seat of her Lincoln Navigator on May 7, which was parked behind a location on the 200 block of S. Ridgeland. The offenders fled northbound in an alley when they saw the victim come out of the house. The first offender is described as a male between 14 and 15 years old, between 5-feet-6 and 5-feet-9, with a thin build, and black dreadlocked hair. The second offender is described as a male between 16 and 18 years old, between 5-feet-8 and 5-feet-10, with a medium build and black hair. An Apple iPod and a computer were removed from the vehicle. Estimated loss is $1,600.
Harassment through electronic communications arrest
James Vinyard, 48, of the 8700 block of Patricia Drive in Lyons, was arrested on May 7 and charged with sending numerous harassing test messages, some of a sexual nature, to a male juvenile victim, a resident of Oak Park. The suspect was unknown to the victim.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from May 4-9, 2011. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
