Four sports teams at Oak Park and River Forest High School were awarded No. 1 seeds in their respective IHSA playoff sectionals last week.
A mild phenomenon that isn't likely to occur again for awhile, OPRF's varsity baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball programs did so well in competition during the spring season that the teams earned a top seed come playoff time. Adding to the advantage, three out of four of the regional competitions will be hosted at OPRF.
Baseball: With a 21-5 overall record, the Huskies earned a No. 1 seed in the Oak Park (Fenwick) Sectional. They'll host the regional, which begins May 25.
Softball: Being one of the best softball programs in the area is nothing new for the Huskies, who won't be on their home field come sectional playoff time (at St. Ignatius), but that shouldn't matter. Last year's State runner-up looks poised to ride its No. 1 sectional seed all the way to the State tournament this season.
Soccer: The Huskies should get a kick out of hosting their own sectional as the top team to beat. The team is currently holding strong at 12-4-1, and eyeing a trip downstate.
Volleyball: There was really no question that the OPRF volleyball team would be the No. 1 seed in its own sectional. The Huskies are 24-5 and ranked No. 1 in the State. The regional begins at Holy Trinity on May 24.
