Second baseman Blake Whealy hit his third homer of the year Sunday and went 4-for-25 (.160) last week for Single-A St. Lucie, which has lost nine in a row. Whealy had an RBI double and a run May 2 against Daytona. His average has fallen to .250 through 30 games, with three homers and nine RBIs.
Justin Olson fell to 2-3 Friday when he allowed six runs in five innings in Double-A New Britain's 7-3 loss to New Hampshire. He gave up seven hits, including a solo homer, to go along with two walks and five strikeouts. Olson, who defeated New Hampshire in his previous start, has a 4.50 ERA in six starts.
Single-A Stockton designated hitter Vasili Spanos saw his average drop 25 points to .284 after he went 4-for-21 (.190) in five games last week. Spanos had a double and two RBIs, giving him 14 RBIs in 28 games.
Ruairi O'Connor went 1-for-2 with a walk in three pinch-hitting appearances last weekend as Florida State swept a three-game series at Maryland. He had an RBI single in the ninth inning of Saturday's 8-1 win. O'Connor is hitting .238 with two homers and 16 RBIs for the Seminoles.
Western Michigan right-hander Derek Schlecker threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings last week in two relief outings against Valparaiso and Central Michigan. He retired the only man he faced in a loss to Valpo and then pitched two shutout innings Sunday as the Broncos were swept by Central Michigan. Schlecker has a 1.83 ERA in 17 appearances.
