The OPRF softball team improved to 21-4 on the season by sweeping top-ranked Glenbard North in a doubleheader, and edging West Suburban (Silver) rival Glenbard West last week.
It took last minute heroics coupled with some luck in both games but the Huskies (21-4, 7-1) were able to topple fourth-ranked Glenbard North 7-4 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2 in Carol Stream on Saturday.
Tied 4-4 in the seventh of the opener, Erika Rosenwinkel scored from second base off of Jessica Rigas' single. Glenbard North left fielder Kayla Smith bobbled the ball and Rosenwinkel took advantage of the miscue, the Panthers' seventh error of the game.
Jane Nightengale (6-1) went the distance for the Huskies, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. The senior right hander struck out three and walked one. Nightengale also knocked in two runs for the Huskies, and helped win the nightcap.
Down 2-1 midway through Game 2, Nightengale drove in the tying run with a squeeze bunt. She scored the game winner off a wild pitch in the seventh.
Freshman Seana Stillson (5-1) notched her fifth win of the season in the nightcap. Stillson allowed just one earned run on seven hits. She struck out three and walked one.
Rosenwinkel went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI and Samantha Pehlke blasted a homer in OPRF's 3-1 WSC win over Glenbard West on Friday. Kate Ziegler added an RBI on a double, and Caitlin Morocco scored a run.
Holly Roadruck (8-2) gave up one earned run on five hits in seven innings for the Huskies, who also edged Lyons Township 1-0 on May 4. Pehlke drove in Steph Bernthal for the game-winner in the seventh of that win.
OPRF hosts York Friday (4:30 p.m.) and New Trier on Saturday (10 a.m.).
