Commissioner David Kindler was elected to the position of board president Thursday, following departing comments from outgoing parks President Tim Kelly and Vice President Jacques Conway.
Kelly, who has served on the park board since 1997, thanked fellow board members and staff before leaving his seat. Kelly's board colleagues thanked him for always being a "steady" leader. Conway, who is leaving his tenure on the park board to take a seat on the Oak Park and River Forest High School board, also expressed thanks, and said the park board has shown "what government should be like."
"Politics have never played a role. If [the village board] across the street follows the example from over here this will be a much better village," he said.
After newly-elected commissioners Marty Bracco and Christine Graves took their seats, commissioner Tom Philion was also elected to the position of vice president.
