Fenwick softball sweeps Joliet Catholic

Mrozek records shutout in opener, Soja in Game 2

The Fenwick softball team shutdown, shutout and swept Joliet Catholic in doubleheader action on Saturday.

The Friars won the opener 8-0 and followed up the blanking with a 9-0 drubbing.

Jess Mrozek fanned eight batters and allowed four hits in the Game 1 victory. She improved her pitching record to 4-0, while also going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Olivia Soja earned the shutout in Game 2, scattering just two hits while striking out six. Mrozek had three hits in that win, and Jenna Cairo two.

The victories pushed Fenwick's record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

The Friars were coming off a 7-4 loss to Whitney Young where the Dolphins scored four runs on five hits in the seventh inning.

Fenwick kicked off last week by slipping past York 6-4 as Jenna Cairo went 3-for-3 and Mrozek tossed a complete game.
