Ruth Lamie Schappert, 85, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died at home on March 25, 2013. Born on Jan. 1, 1928 in Erwin, Tenn., to James and Jenny Lamie, she was a graduate of Unicoi County High School and attended East Tennessee State University. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing and was known for her kindness and selfless ways.

Ruth Schappert is survived by Robert C., her husband of 64 years; her children, Kevin (Betsy), James, Mary Anne (Tom) Daniels, Jenny (the late Joseph) Macino, Ruthie, and David (Jolene) Schappert; her grandchildren, Katie Schappert and Jennifer (Mark) Morris, Jessica, John and Joe Daniels, Lindsay and Julie Macino, Sarah Schappert, and Nina Schappert; her great-grandchild, Hayden Morris; and her sister, Virginia (the late Dennis) Hilton. She was preceded in death by her other siblings, Louise (David) Lynch and James (Betty) Lamie.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m until the time of Mass, 11 a.m, at St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy Church, 38 N. Austin Blvd. in Oak Park. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated. Arrangements were handled by Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home.
