We are fortunate in Oak Park that we have more than 10 people running for our high school board. Some communities can barely find enough folks to fill four open slots. Oak Park has a choice from a very full slate of quality candidates.
I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine — Julie MacCarthy — who I know would be an excellent school board member. Julie has an open, creative and active mind. She does not have a hidden agenda, nor is she a single-issue candidate. Her agenda is excellent, quality education for every child in Oak Park and River Forest. She is a person of the highest ethical standards. Julie's reason to run for the school board is an old-fashioned one — Community Service — giving back to our community.
Julie MacCarthy was an English teacher. Her passion is education. She has worked in the Chicago Public Schools with teachers and administrators for more than a decade on school diversity issues and helping schools perform better. She has worked well with people of diverse backgrounds, bringing people together, no matter their formal roles in the system, to produce an improved school program. She knows the issues. She is a consensus builder not a divider. She works with people to build consensus, not against one group or the other.
Julie earned a doctorate in education from DePaul while working full time. She is a single mom whose daughter will graduate in June from OPRF High School and is going on to study political science at University of Wisconsin Madison. Julie has a record of energetic community involvement at the food pantry, the Animal Care League, the park district and voter registration at Oak Park's Farmers Market. She is a great, creative and committed volunteer.
I strongly recommend my friend, Julie MacCarthy, for the District 200 school board.
