From the District 97 tax hike referendum to the contested election for the OPRF high school board, Wednesday Journal's news team will be on the job tonight.

Up-to-the-minute vote totals will always be front and center on the OakPark.com home page. Our reporters will be out gathering the news and reactions from candidates and supporters at victory (or non-victory) parties. Our photographers will be shooting election night pictures and slideshows.

And by morning we'll have the whole package in print in our special election edition of Wednesday Journal.

I believe we need to fund education, but there has to be a point where publicly funded personnel are not paid (including bennies) more than those funding them. They have to realize that those paying the taxes are going to be driven out of Oak Park by the inabilty to pay for all the goodies Oak Parker have voted for. If we want to have a diverse population, then we need to have some restraints in spending from all those in public service. Otherwise, we will become a high income only village.

Congratulations to District 97 for a needed victory today! I attended the celebration tonight at Trattoria 225 and listened to all the deserved "thank-you's." I would like to add a "thank-you" to the teachers who were not mentioned tonight but who voted to freeze their pay, setting the stage for citizen support of the referendum.
