Oak Park gymnasts compete in state championship

The 2005 USA Gymnastics Illinois Boys' State Championships took place on March 12 and 13 in Mundelein. Over 600 boys participated, ranging in ages from 6 to 18 years old. The Oak Park Gymnastics Center, coached by Jason Cardenas, sent 25 boys who qualified for the State Championships based on scores during the regular gymnastics season.

Qualifying Level 4 boys included Anthony Gomez, Max Gonzalez, Jack O'Brien, Arne Olson, Liam Mackey, Gib Traczyk and Max Showatter. The Level 4 boys placed 5th in team finals.

Qualifying Level 5 boys included Mani Adams, Thomas Evitt, Thomas Considine, Daniel Johnson, Timmy Plona and Lee Werner.

Qualifying Level 6 boys included Eigen Aoki, Gabe Badding, Shane Forde, Philip Lombardo, Alek Pedersen, Andrew McCabe and Sullivan Stewart.

Qualifying Level 7 boys included Sam Fourman, Miles Gillenwater, Matt McCabe, Zach Ross and Jonathan Smith.

Top finishers included Max Gonzalez, who placed 5th overall; Andrew McCabe who placed 10th overall; and Gabe Badding, who also placed 10th overall.

Badding, Fourman, Forde, Gillenwater, Andrew McCabe, Matt McCabe, Smith and Stewart qualified for the Region V Championships, which will be held in Valparaiso, Ind., this week.
