An additional 300 spaces are expected to be added to the Holley Court Garage by November as part of the first phase of an expansion project.
Whiteco Residential, which will build a 14-story mixed use project atop the village-owned parking lot at Harlem Avenue and Ontario Street, has already started drafting plans for the project.
The first phase of the expansion will extend the garage westward onto the Harlem Avenue parcel formerly occupied by the so-called Hoppe Building.
Construction on the garage may begin as early as June.
A second expansion northward onto a 35-by-40 foot "notch" of land tucked behind the Marshall Field's building, just north of the Prairie Way alley, will begin at a later date. That project will add another 200 spaces, bringing the total capacity of the garage to 1,200.
The village purchased the notch from Water Tower Realty, which owns the Field's building, for $1.
