The election is over. With the help of Wednesday Journal editorial page, many citizens gained a new awareness of Oak Park Township. I invite them to join in the Township policy development and decision making process by applying for a position on one of the Township's advisory committees?#34;Youth Services or Senior Services. Call the Township (383-8005) for an application or go to www.oakparktownship.org. Application deadline is Thursday, April 14.
The Township has worked hard to improve visibility and openness. A new service directory and annual report are mailed to all residents, the web site is timely and informative, press releases on services are published weekly, and all board and advisory committee meetings are open for public comment. The openness of the budget is demonstrated by its having received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the past two years from the Government Finance Officers Association.
More can be done and will be. On behalf of the Township board and staff, I welcome any citizen to visit the Township offices and senior facilities, the programs and make comments and suggestions to help us better serve Oak Park.
Better yet, apply to serve on one of the advisory committees.
