Robber not believed to be connected to Oak Park attacker

A female Forest Park resident was riding the CTA Blue Line headed eastbound between the Oak Park and Harlem stops on April 23 when she was robbed by an unknown offender described as a male between 40 and 45 years old, between 5-feet-4 and 5-feet-5, with a slim build, a very dark complexion, and messy facial hair. The suspect approached the victim and pulled the gold chain from around her neck. The suspect then attempted to remove the purse from the victim's lap when she kicked him. He then fled the train at the Oak Park stop. Estimated loss is $100.

Oak Park Deputy Chief Anthony Ambrose said police do not believe the robbery was connected to other recent attacks and robberies on women in Oak Park.

Aggravated robbery

A victim was approached by three offenders on the 400 block of N. Austin Blvd. on April 21. One of the offenders removed the victim's Blackhawks hat from his head. When the victim attempted to take it back, another offender placed his hands in the front of his pants and said "I've got a gun." All three offenders fled eastbound on Lake. Estimated loss is $39.

Burglary to garage

An unknown offender entered a garage on the 800 block of S. Euclid Ave. between April 17 and 19 and removed a men's blue and silver Ironman bicycle and a men's blue Huffy mountain bike. The Huffy was recovered outside the garage. A silver 2007 Volvo XL70 also had pry marks on the driver's side door. Estimated loss is $300.

Theft

An unknown offender gained entry to a locked gym locker at Oak Park and River Forest High School on the 200 block of N. Scoville on April 18 and removed a black 8 gigabyte Apple iPhone and $10 in cash. Estimated loss is $110.

An unknown offender removed a package containing three pairs of shoes from in front of a basement door at a location on the 1000 block of N. Harlem Ave. on April 15. Estimated loss is $150.

Possession of stolen motor vehicle

Joseph Johnson, 27, of the 7000 block of S. Wolcott in Chicago was arrested on the 400 block of S. Central in Chicago on April 19 while driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from 420 Washington Blvd. Johnson was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and driving without a valid driver's license.

Residential burglary

A victim discovered two unknown offenders in his home on the 1100 block of N. Austin Blvd. on April 19. One offender stated he was about to leave and ran downstairs and out the door. The victim followed the offender down the stairs and saw the suspect running northbound in an alley with a second offender. The victim later discovered that there had been an attempt to remove a television from the home. There was a screwdriver left on a couch as well.

Possession of cannabis arrest

A male juvenile from Oak Park was arrested on April 20 at OPRF high school and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of tobacco by a minor. He was turned over to the custody of a parent.

Inside warrant arrest

Chevadas T. Smith, 22, of the 500 block of N. Lombard was arrested at a location on the 400 block of N. Harlem on April 20 on an outstanding warrant for resisting a peace officer.

Burglary

An unknown offender entered a building on the 1500 block of N. Austin Blvd. between April 17 and 19 by breaking a basement window and removed approximately 120 feet of copper piping and broke three sinks in the building. Estimated loss is $8,600.

An unknown offender entered a basement on the 1300 block of N. Austin Blvd. between April 15 and 19 and removed an unknown amount of copper pipe. The bathroom sinks on the first and second floors of the house were damaged and the faucets were removed as well. Estimated loss is $8,000.

Possession of tobacco by minor

A male juvenile Chicago resident was arrested on the 400 block of N. Austin on April 20 and charged with possession of tobacco by a minor. He was later released to a parent.

Obstructing identification arrest

A male juvenile Chicago resident was arrested on April 20 on the 400 block of N. Austin and charged with obstructing identification. He was later released to a parent.

Burglary to motor vehicle

An unknown offender removed a camera, wallet, driver's license, and $10 in cash from a Ford Freestyle minivan parked on the 200 block of N. Kenilworth Ave. between April 21 and 22. Estimated loss is $260.

An unknown offender removed a bag of candy, an insurance card, and a vehicle registration card from a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero parked on the 200 block of N. Grove Ave. between April 21 and 22.

Driving under the influence

William R. Bergey, 56, of the 900 block of N. Oak Park Ave. was arrested April 22 for driving under the influence, driving with an expired license, driving without insurance, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, after he was involved in a single-car traffic accident on the 600 block of N. Oak Park. The suspect refused to be tested for blood alcohol content.

Criminal damage to state supported land

An unknown offender broke a window and applied spray paint graffiti to a wall of Longfellow School on the 700 block of S. Highland Ave. between April 21 and 23. Total damage is unknown.

Public indecency arrest

Allen Dyer, 29, of the 7200 block of W. Madison St. in Forest Park, was arrested on the 100 block of N. Ridgeland Ave. for two counts of public indecency. The police received two separate calls about a man committing acts of public indecency in the parking garage across the street from Ridgeland Common, and Dyer was apprehended when police went to investigate the reports.

These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from April 19 to 26. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
