Roundup: OPRF girls water polo team pushes record to 15-5

The OPRF girls water polo team continued to rack up victories at a tournament hosted by Naperville North on Saturday.
The Huskies went 3-1, grabbing wins over Whitney Young, 12-4, Naperville North, 7-6, and Lockport, 6-3, but falling to Hinsdale Central 9-6.
Katie Appell scored her most goals in a single game in the tournament by finding the net seven times against Whitney Young. Grace Martin, Samantha Robbins, Claire Rolfes, Hannah Legatzke and Jocelyn Weisman also scored for the Huskies.
Appell finished the tourney with 16 goals, including four against Naperville North. Earlier in the week, she scored six goals in OPRF's 13-4 win over Neuqua Valley. Robbins added three goals and Jordin Hale had five saves playing in just half the game in that win. The Huskies led 12-0 after three quarters.
Also last week, the Huskies fell 11-3 to cross-town rival Fenwick in the battle for village bragging rights. Appell scored two goals in the loss, while Zoe Erickson racked up six blocks and Hale five.
The Huskies entered this week with a 15-5 overall record.
Fenwick softball
The Fenwick softball team split a doubleheader against Marist on Saturday, falling in Game 1 8-3 but regrouping to edge the RedHawks 3-2 in the second game.
Michaela Monaco had the game winning hit for the Friars in Game 2, while Val Perrelli (3-3) earned the victory on the mound by yielding two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Friars also began last week going 1-1, falling to Benet 3-0 but slipping past Resurrection 4-2. Maggie Horn, Marisa Wakely and Sage Juveland had hits in the game against Benet. Jenna Cairo had the game winning hit in the win over Resurrection, while Liv Soja earned the victory on the mound. Soja allowed just two runs on three hits in five innings of work.
The Friars entered this week with a 10-5 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
OPRF softball
The Huskies kicked off West Suburban (Silver) Conference play last week by blanking Hinsdale Central 4-0. Pitcher Emma Baldwin yielded just five hits and one walk while fanning seven in a complete game effort. Baldwin also went 2-for-3 and drove in a run at the plate. Mariah Weinand went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Elaine Warner also plated a run for the Huskies (4-6, 1-0).
Fenwick volleyball
The Friars downed Gordon Tech last week 25-5, 25-18 behind 13 kills from George Cokinis, who also tallied four blocks. Joey McCauley dished out 24 assists in the win.
