Warmer weather was just what the Trinity softball team needed to get back on track last week.

The Blazers (10-4, 5-3 Girls Catholic Athletic Confer.) took both games of a doubleheader, 13-3, 9-0, from St. Joseph on Saturday at Triton College, and they had an impressive come-from-behind win Friday, edging Riverside Brookfield 5-4.

“It was a good effort. We are starting to pick up,” said Trinity coach Bob Osborne after the doubleheader sweep against St. Joseph.

Emma-Leigh Strock (6-3) pitched the first game and notched nine strikeouts.

“I had the defense today, and my team was really hitting. That encouraged me to do better,” said Strock.

Monica Albano went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Blazers.

“I wanted to get a nice hit and it went over the fence,” remarked Albano.

Laura Eichenold had three hits, two RBIs, and Erica LeCoure went 4-for-4 and drove in the last run to end the game after five innings.

The nightcap put Emily Landa (4-1) on the mound for the Blazers. Landa was steady with five strikeouts, while allowing five hits in the shutout.

“It felt good,” said Landa of her win. “At the beginning of the year I was not as comfortable, but I’m getting there. I don’t like being cold.”

Landa’s pitching effort was again supported by her team’s offense. The Blazers scored two runs in the bottom of the first. They went up 3-0 in the third and then added two more in the fifth. They had a big sixth inning, scoring four more runs to put the game out of reach.

Leadoff hitter Eichenold started the game with a single and finished with a double, driving in two runs in the sixth. Allison Mazurek went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Cleanup hitter Albano had two RBIs with a single and a triple. She is batting .450 and has four home runs so far this season. Annie Logisz finished with five stolen bases.

Trinity erased a 3-0 deficit against Riverside Brookfield on Friday by scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Emily LeDoux paced the Blazers’ offense with two RBIs.

The Blazers host local rival Elmwood Park Thursday and conference rival De La Salle Friday. Both games are at 4:30 p.m. at Triton College.
