Robert M. Nicholas, 64, a lifelong resident of River Forest, died on April 16, 2013, at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. Born on June 28, 1948, to the late Everett E., M.D. and Lois Myers Nicholas, he graduated from Grace Lutheran School in River Forest and Oak Park and River Forest High School. He attended Wheaton College and completed a degree in political science at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1971.
The owner of RMN Graphics in Addison, he was a longtime member of the Elk Grove Rotary Club and a trustee, elder and deacon of First Presbyterian Church of River Forest where he worshiped his entire life. He was an avid golfer and a member of the River Forest Tennis Club. His other passions were the Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Bears.
He was the grandson of Robert E. Nicholas, a pioneer commercial developer in the early 1900s in downtown Oak Park, including the Westgate "Tudor Village." The annual Nicholas Awards are named in his honor.
Robert Nicholas is survived by Nancy, his wife of 44 years; his children, Robert "Rob" (Alison) and Kimberly "Kim" (Mark) Hoyt; his grandchildren, Tyler and Abigail Hoyt; his brother, Everett (Nikki) Nicholas; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service was held on April 20 at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest. Memorials to the church at 7551 Quick Ave., River Forest 60305 are greatly appreciated.
