I wanted to express my appreciation for being among the four Oak Park Public Library Board candidates Wednesday Journal endorsed last week.
I hold all of my fellow candidates in high esteem and hope to be entrusted by voters to contribute my efforts to those of staff and elected officials whose leadership has been instrumental in the library's five-star rating.
During my career as a newspaper reporter, I covered numerous public bodies that ran the gamut in terms of efficiency, transparency and integrity. That background strongly influences my commitment, if given the opportunity to serve on the board, to being an accountable and conscientious public servant.
I am also excited about the prospect of applying my communication skills, noted in the newspaper's endorsement, to raise awareness of the many services provided by the library.
As strong as the library has been, we should never grow complacent and always question how we can better serve the community. If elected, I would join those on the board who already have been seeking ways to adapt to these rapidly changing times, particularly when it comes to technology's role to inform, entertain and empower.
