Edward H. Fiedler Jr., 81, formerly of Oak Park, died peacefully on March 20, 2013 of cancer at his home in Leesburg, Fla. He was a talented, hard-working attorney, an avid tennis player, a dedicated friend, a prolific artist, a perpetual joker, a tireless mentor, a doting grandfather, a caring and involved father, and a loving and devoted husband.
Never seeking recognition, he gave ceaselessly and selflessly of his time, talents, energy, wisdom, support, and resources. He improved the lives of all around him and was a man of incredible integrity who lived a full and meaningful life.
Edward Fiedler is survived by his wife, Shirley, née Becker, and of the late Barbara, née McAllister; his children, Edward (Jane) Fiedler III, Kurt Fiedler, Hope (Bill) Geldes, Sara (Mark) Wienkes, and Jessica (Tony) Roche; his grandchildren, Edward (IV) and Andrew Fiedler, Ashley Fiedler, Marty, Elliott and Molly Kunkel, Alexandra and Audrey Wienkes, and Fiona, Colin, Tara and Braeden Roche; and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joan (the late Ed) Potts, Celeste (the late Merwin) Bristol, and Barbara (Dean) Hill.
Cremation was private and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on April 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Church, 808 S. East Ave., in Oak Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York, the Barbara Fiedler Scholarship Fund at Dominican University in River Forest, or to your favorite charity.
