Armed robbery not connected to recent Oak Park attacks

A man who robbed a woman at gunpoint on April 11 is not thought to be connected to the man responsible for a series of attacks and robberies of women in Oak Park that began in late March.

A victim walking eastbound on South Blvd. just before 6:30 p.m. was asked for directions by a man standing next to a gray minivan. He then displayed a semi-automatic pistol and told the victim to "drop the bag." The victim dropped her bag, which held a wallet, Toshiba laptop, Nook e-reader, an orange Kate Spade purse, miscellaneous identification and credit cards, and fled in the opposite direction. The offender grabbed the bag, entered the minivan, and fled westbound on South Blvd. Estimated loss is $1,310.

"This is not similar to other incidents in the pattern," said Oak Park Commander LaDon Reynolds, when asked if the crime were connected to recent unarmed attacks on women.

Robbery

An offender described as a male in his 20s, 5-feet-6, 160 pounds, with brown hair, approached a victim in the parking lot of Denny's Restaurant on the 700 block of N. Harlem just after noon on April 10, pushed the victim and grabbed an orange bank bag out of the victim's hand, then fled eastbound on Superior St. Estimated loss is $3,978.

Theft

An unknown offender signed for and stole an Apple iPad and accessory kit delivered to the victim's home on the 400 block of S. Maple on March 3 and March 11, respectively. Estimated loss is $648.

Someone removed two sets of golf clubs with bags, and an electrical cord from a residence on the 900 block of S. Euclid on April 11. Estimated loss is $1,315.

Home invasion

An unknown offender removed an assortment of jewelry, $900 in cash, and a portable television from a residence on the 1300 block of William in River Forest on the afternoon of April 8.

Burglary to garage

An unknown offender broke into a garage on the first block of W. Chicago, April 5, and removed a Toro snowblower, four aluminum rims, four tires and keys. Estimated loss is $2,850.

An unknown offender removed a women's 10-speed bicycle and a lawnmower from a garage on the 500 block of S. Euclid between April 9 and 10. Estimated loss is $700.

Someone removed a Toro snowblower and a battery charger from a garage on the 1200 block of Fair Oaks on April 10. Estimated loss is $680.

Theft from motor vehicle

An unknown offender removed a 2011 parking pass from a Chrysler Le Baron, parked on the 200 block of N. Scoville on March 24. Estimated loss is $160.

Tires were removed from five different cars parked in Oak Park between April 6 and 11. A wheel, tire, and hub cap were removed from a 1998 Lexus ES300, parked in a parking lot at 3 Erie Court on April 7. A spare tire was removed from a 2007 Toyota Rav 4, parked on the 200 block of S. Oak Park Ave. between April 6 and 8. A rim and tire were removed from a 2004 Toyota Camry, parked on the 1000 block of W. Randolph between April 7 and 9. A spare tire was removed from a 2006 Chevrolet Express van, parked on the 800 block of W. Washington between April 8 and 9; and a spare tire was removed from a 2006 Toyota Rav 4, parked on the 100 block of S. Grove between April 8 and 9. Oak Park police said the tire thefts are part of a pattern they believe is connected.

Residential burglary

Garrett R. Reuter, 19, of the 500 block of S. Humphrey, was arrested and charged with residential burglary for an incident that occurred on March 31.

Someone removed $5,000 in cash and a black leather jacket from a residence on the 100 block of S. Kenilworth on April 10. Estimated loss is $5,150.

An unknown offender removed a Playstation 3 video system, Nintendo Wii video system, an AT&T cellphone, and two Toshiba laptop computers from a residence on the first block of Chicago on April 11. Estimated loss is $1,800.

Criminal trespass to residence

A juvenile female and juvenile male, both residents of Oak Park, turned themselves in to Oak Park police for an incident that occurred on the 500 block of S. Harvey on April 7. They were charged with criminal trespass to residence and theft and turned over to the custody of their respective parents.

A juvenile female Oak Park resident turned herself in to Oak Park police for an incident that occurred on the 700 block of S. East on March 30. She was charged with criminal trespass to residence and turned over to the custody of a parent.

Criminal defacement to property

An unknown offender caused damage to the exterior of the Oak Park and River Forest High School building on the 200 block of N. Scoville between April 8 and 9 by spray painting several numbers, objects and letters in multiple locations. Estimated loss due to damage is unknown.

Graffiti

An unknown offender spray-painted the letters "NSB" with pink spray paint on the outside wall of Whittier School on the 700 block of N. Harvey between April 8 and 10.

Criminal damage to vehicle

An unknown offender placed a Mammoth white smoke bomb on the rear seat of a 2009 Volkswagen CC Sport parked on the 200 block of N. Euclid on April 10. The smoke bomb melted an area of the rear seat. Estimated loss is $500.

These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, April 5-12. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
