Last month on March 19 the Oak Park River Forest High School Gospel Choir celebrated their 12th annual High School Gospel music workshop and concert. The concert took place in the main auditorium of OPRFHS. St. Paul Lutheran Gospel Choir members came and sang for us under the direction of their director and sponsor Denine Garrett. They sang beautifully and we greatly enjoyed their company. It was very nice of them to come and share their joyous singing with us. The auditorium was not as full as we would have preferred it to be. As a community, we will work on that for the next performance. The welcome address was done by Ms. Donna Stevens, Asst. Superintendent for Pupil Support Services. As a Gospel Choir Parent/Support group member, I was stunned when Ms. Stevens announced starting a scholarship for the seniors of the Gospel Choir. The J. Wiggins Gospel Choir scholarship will be in honor of Mr. James Wiggins, sponsor and founder of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Gospel Choir for 26 years. Our 2005 June graduates of the Gospel Choir will be the first recipient. We as parents will continue to support the choir and we hope to receive also the support of all community members.
