District 97 plans to have a replacement principal named at Brooks Middle School by late May, Supt. John Fagan said Tuesday.
The district will employ the same selection process it has used for previous principal searches, and that it's using to find a new principal at Whittier Elementary for the retiring Paula O'Malley.
"It's a process that's worked for us," Fagan said. "We'll continue to use it."
Flora Green is expected to finish the school year at Brooks.
"There's still enough time" in the 11 weeks remaining until the end of June for a full search process, Fagan said. He knew of internal candidates who would be qualified for the Brooks post, "but we want to look at external candidates, too."
Board President Ade Onayemi isn't as sure there's time to complete the process. "It's tight," he said, but added, "they don't have to start from scratch."
Teachers and parents at Brooks have participated in surveys and data-gathering processes that have addressed leadership at the school as part of the Critical Issues process there.
Input from teachers and parent groups will direct the selection process, Fagan said. Incoming Supt. Connie Collins will make the final recommendation to the Board of Education.
If a suitable candidate is not found after the job is posted, an interim would be named and the search continued next school year.
