Brooks Middle School Principal Flora Green is expected to be reassigned to a new central office administrative post at tonight's District 97 Board of Education meeting.
The board "will be taking action at that meeting," said Supt. John Fagan.
The decision would end a process of demoting Green to teacher ranks that began in early March.
Fagan worked out a tentative reassignment agreement with Green last week, but said Tuesday that details were still being finalized.
Fagan said the new job would not be as principal at any school in the district, and that it would be a newly created central office position with responsibilities in the schools. An administrative post in the Multicultural Education Department would fall under the classification of central office, he said.
Fagan sent an email to the Brooks PTO email listserv on Friday telling of the tentative agreement.
"We're looking forward to a productive use of Flora's talents as a central office administrator for the next two years," he wrote in part.
Green has told the district she will retire in two years, which set her salary for that period, no matter what position she holds.
An administrative reassignment would mean the district would drop an effort to reclassify Green to teacher ranks.
"We have no further plans for scheduling a public hearing" on reclassification, Fagan said last week. A public hearing scheduled for last Wednesday night was canceled when Green and the district got "close enough conceptually" to an agreement on a new post, Fagan said.
Tonight's meeting will involve the current board, which will continue to serve until an April 20 meeting, when newly elected board members are expected to be sworn in. A new law requires elected bodies wait 14 days after an election for final vote totals.
