George H. Klumpner, 87, a longtime Oak Park resident, died on March 16, 2012, following a fall. Born on June 8, 1924, he earned his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Chicago and his psychoanalytic training at the Institute for Psychoanalysis in Chicago.
His academic appointments included the Institute for Psychoanalysis, the University of Illinois Medical School and Loyola University Medical School. He was well known and highly regarded in the field of psychiatry.
He was married to Inger Klumpner for 65 years and they lived in Oak Park for 57. They resided at 11 Elizabeth Court from 1970 until last summer when they moved to Montgomery Place in Hyde Park. They also had a home in Lake Geneva.
Dr. Klumpner is survived by his son, Jim Klumpner, and his grandchildren, Dr. Tom Klumpner and Susan Klumpner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inger, and his son, George Harold Klumpner.
A memorial service was held on March 22 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park. Cremation was private.
