Oak Park police reported several incidents of spray-painted vandalism on cars, property and garages in the 100 and 200 blocks of Forest Avenue overnight on March 29.

A bronze bust of Frank Lloyd Wright in Austin Gardens was also spray painted with derogatory words, according to Oak Park police.

Neighbors reported that spray-painted vulgar words appeared on a garage door, a brick door, a front door and a decorative brick wall of historic mansions in the Frank Lloyd Wright district. A side mirror was also snapped off a car parked behind one of the houses.

Neighbors are meeting with the resident beat officer Wednesday night to discuss the problem, according to residents.

Last June sculptures in the neighborhood that had been erected for a neighborhood sculpture walk were toppled by vandals, and some neighbors believe the incidents are related.

"We're investigating all those incidents," said Detective Sergeant Michael Richardson. "All resident beat and patrol officers are aware of the patterns in the past week." Richardson said the graffiti was not thought to be gang-related.

Last week, eight properties in the alley between the 700 block of Linden and Columbian were vandalized overnight, with gold and black spray-painted graffiti on overhead garage doors, vehicles and wooden fences. Estimated damage in that incident was $3,800.
