INSIDE REPORT

If you're a blogger and a state political junkie, you may have read Rich Miller's Capitol Fax Blog on March 3. We wouldn't have if it weren't for our political junkie blogger Carl Nyberg, who spotted an interesting comment about the possibility that State Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-7th), who represents Oak Park and River Forest, might run against Gov. Blagojevich in the next gubernatorial primary. According to the commentator, "more than one person has encouraged her to run."

Said Anonymous: "She'd run as suburban business owner and of course a Black  woman. She'd shoot for 51% of the female vote, 51% of the suburban vote and 70% of the Black vote. If she hits two out of these three wickets, she'd beat Blagojevich."

Other bloggers commented in so many words: "Who are you kidding?"

We remain uncommitted.

Cliff Johnson, the ultimate romantic

The memorial service for Cliff Johnson will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, March 12, at Grace Lutheran Church. Should be quite the storytelling fest. When all is said and done, and much will likely be said, the family plans to mix Cliff's ashes with those of his sweetheart and soulmate Luella and bury them together. A romantic right up to the end.

Bad news at Barrie Park: Part 1,123

It may take a little longer than expected to get Barrie Center re-opened this spring. This time, the problem isn't Benzene or coal tar, but just plain old lead paint, park district officials said last week.

Before it can be opened to the public, Barrie Center will have to undergo a lead abatement process. What's next?

One more election note

Our election briefs page was a little stuffed this week, so here's an event we just didn't have room to get in: The Business and Civic Council of Oak Park will hold a village president candidate forum this Friday at the Carleton Hotel, 1110 Pleasant St., from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
