The 2013-2014 school year at Oak Park and River Forest High School will begin on Aug. 19 for all students, but the last day of school will be determined later this spring.
The annual school calendar was approved on Feb. 28 by the District 200 Board of Education, but not as originally recommended by administration.
The school year typically starts the fourth week of August, with a "freshmen only" day the day before all students officially come back.
The freshman only day has yet to be determined, but administration wanted to have them come back a week early on Aug. 16, which is a Friday. But some D200 members thought Aug.16, was too early of a start to the year, perhaps burdening some parents who might have other plans that week.
The board did not accept the administration's recommendation but offered an amended motion to have school start on Aug. 19. That measured passed.
The board left it to administration to figure out how to handle the freshmen, either having Aug. 19 for 9th graders only or splitting that day between the freshmen and remaining student body.
The administration will come back to the board concerning the last day of school, which was originally recommended for June 9.
