The always enthusiastic Chef Francisco "Paco" Lopez has multiple things to celebrate this spring. New Rebozo, his popular Madison Street restaurant, will hit the 20-year-mark. And, although an official date has not been announced, Lopez is opening a second location in Chicago – just off the Magnificent Mile.
The opportunity for the city location came about quickly and unexpectedly and Lopez made the leap. The new restaurant at 46 E. Superior will open this spring. The Oak Park location at 1116 Madison St. has long been well known locally but it recent years it has garnered attention in multiple Chicago media outlets and has been featured on the popular TV show Check Please.
The new location, which is smaller than the Oak Park spot, will feature a scaled down version of the current menu. Lopez says his son will take the lead role at the Chicago location and that he will remain highly active in Oak Park. Lopez has made his name by bringing classic Mexican dishes with a modern, unique touch.
Most of the details of the new establishment, like the menu, haven't been announced yet, but the sister restaurant will bring his famous variety of moles. The new location is mentioned on the restaurant's website, newrebozo.com, which will soon feature more details.
Lopez has also been actively involved in the Oak Park community. The restaurant features pictures of the passionate chef doing cooking demonstrations with kids from local elementary schools.
