A ceremony was held by the Chapter 557 Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) on Feb. 20 at the Oak Park Public Library to award scholarships to local teachers and therapists for their work and programs for children with special needs. For the first time this year, the ceremony included not only CEC mini-grant awards but also Naomi Law Scholarship awards, named for the former director of special education in Oak Park Elementary School District 97.
The CEC awarded four $250 scholarships. The $500 Naomi Law Scholarships went to two teaching assistants, who are continuing their education at the college level.
