River Forest U12 Rapids finish perfect in league

The River Forest Rapids U12 girls' soccer team placed first in the Darien Sportsplex Traveling Youth Soccer League for the 2005 winter season. Playing in the upper division of the league, the Rapids faced teams from Chicago, Darien, Downers Grove, Orland Park and Hinsdale.

The team, coached by professional trainer "Cat" Chicos along with parent coach Dennis Dunaway, had a perfect record of 10-0. Over the course of the season the team outscored their opponents by 68-20. In addition, a strong showing at the annual Dynamo Soccer Club St. Valentine's tournament earned the team third place.

"We use the indoor season as a time to focus on developing specific skills and keeping the girls in condition, the team looks ready for the spring season." said club President Lou Nieto.

For the second year in a row, the team is competing in the "A" Division of the Illinois Women's Soccer League (IWSL), the highest level of competition.

Barnhisel wins State title

Nine Fenwick Falcons competed in the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation Senior State Champions tournament in Rockford.

Wrestling against five opponents and only giving up three points throughout the tournament, Bobby Barnhisel, 101 pounds, defeated Brandon Wilbourn in the finals by a score of 1-0. Barnhisal escaped a hold in the closing seconds to win the title. He now has a record of 38-4 for the year.

Another Falcon in the finals was Nick Dardanes (84 pounds), who also had a close match only to take second place, losing by the score of 2-1. Dardanes also had a great season with a record of 32-2 for the year.

First year wrestler Erik Hulihan came home with a fifth place medal in the novice division. Other state finishers who placed included Joe Scardina (108), Travares Green (122) and Ben Brooks, all of which took home a sixth place medal. Other state qualifiers were Chris Dardanes, Chris McNamara, and Nate Welch.

Strikers Soccer Club tryouts

Tryouts for next year's OPRF Strikers teams (U9-U14) will be held Saturday May 21, 2005. Pre-registration is required. Tryouts for girls high school age teams will be held Sunday, May 22. Football camp

The 23rd Annual Justin Gage/Revie Sorey All Pro Football Camp featuring Jerry Azumah returns to River Forest this summer at Concordia University.

The camp features Non-contact instruction by the nation's top NFL pros and high school & college coaches.

All positions & all levels of ability are taught to boys 10 -18.

Although enrollment is limited, the camp is now taking applications.
