The District 200 Board of Education approved the 2013-2014 school year calendar on March 21.
Monday, Aug. 19 marks the start of the upcoming school year, with freshmen only arriving on that day and the remaining student body arriving on Aug. 20.
Aug. 15 and 16 are scheduled for professional development for teachers and staff. May 30, 2014 is the last day of school.
Administration at the high school initially wanted the first day of school to fall on Aug. 16. Some D200 board members, however, felt that an earlier-than-usual start date would inconvenience too many families. The board earlier this spring approved Aug. 19 as the starting date and left it up to the administration to decide on the last day of school.
The final, official calendar was approved last Thursday.
