I have been married to John Hedges for 45 years. Throughout those years, John has taught me some invaluable philosophies by which to live: "Don't take anything personally — even though it's meant that way," "If you get mad, they win," "Don't spend money if you can't afford it," "Always be honest," "Serve your community," and finally, "A sense of humor always helps."
Over the years, John has held these beliefs while serving as a leader in many capacities. He's been a village trustee for six years. For 20 years, he was the executive director of the Park District of Oak Park. He also served as acting village manager. John has been the president of the local Community Chest/United Way, the Oak Park Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the OP-RF Rotary Club. His years of valuable leadership on several committees for both school districts 200 and 97 garnered him the Oak Park Education Foundation's William Staszak Award for service to youth.
John's history of continuous public service and civic engagement in Oak Park spans 33 years. His philosophy about leadership and service has truly benefited our community. His extensive experiences as a leader in so many aspects of village life will make him a great village president, one who is qualified and prepared to lead from day one. Experience does matter.
