I'm writing in support of Steve Gevinson, candidate for the Oak Park and River Forest High School board. Dr. Gevinson has the experience and outlook to excel in serving the communities of Oak Park and River Forest on the District 200 board.

Steve has a unique combination of administrative and classroom experience. He has a history of leadership in an educational setting, earning the respect of both administration and teachers. In addition to over 30 years teaching at OPRF, he served as chair of the English Department for eight years, and chair of the OPRF Faculty Senate Executive Committee for two years. He will look for ways to trim costs while maintaining academic excellence. During his time chairing the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, a major reorganization agreement was made with the school board, saving $3.3 million annually.

Steve will make the successful education of all students his top priority. He has written about best practices for closing the achievement gap and has attended early childhood seminars and community events. He participated in the Consortium for Educational Change and in Project Scholar, which provided meaningful gains for disadvantaged students at OPRF.

His expertise, intelligence, thoughtfulness, and willingness to tackle tough financial issues will be great assets to the high school and to the Oak Park and River Forest communities. Please join me on April 9, or vote early March 25 to April 6, for Steve Gevinson for the D200 board.
